Retirement aye?

With the spate of recent retirements of champion cricketers has got me thinking. Who is going to replace them? In the fast bowling stocks well it is quiet clear that Hillfenhaus should come into the test squad, as for the spinner well there is MacGill but he isn't a long term replacement and it is MacGill.

Australia has a few young spinners like Cullen Balley and Darren Cullen from SA but they aren't up to the standard of test cricket yet, Cameron White doesn't bowl enough for Victoria. It is time to blood a young under 19's leg spinner into the big time, even though this may sound contradictory (not up to test standard) we need a player who can play for the length of time Warne has.

Anyway there is a changing of the guard in Australian cricket at the moment and i would like to hear you point of views. Also the All-rounder issue can be address here too.

i wouldnt want to replace a 37 year old with a 35 year old i would want a spinner that is more long term I would think thats Dan Cullen or Cameron White but both have a lot of work to do before they can reach the test standard, fast bowlers are looking good with Stuart Clark, mitchell johnson, Bracken and Gillespie. I hope we dont pick Shaun Tait hes a dud. As for the all rounder position it is a bit of a worry considering Shane Watson is always injured and Symonds is not a test player and probably never will be we have given him too many chances- drop him. Time for someone else maybe this Adam Voges guy should have a go if he can bowl Michael Clark is an ok bowler. I think we are better prepared now for the retirement of these players then we are back when Dennis Lillie retired.

Ben Hilfenhaus is having a good Pura Cup season, yes. But, I think others such as Nathan Bracken should be up in the pecking order after seasons of toil compared to Hilfenhaus' one and a half. Or Jason Gillespie could have another good five years at the top and bat him at Number 6. After that brilliant double-century against Bangladesh, he's a better and more consistent batter than Andrew Symonds and Shane Watson.

As for the irreplacable Shane Warne, I think MaCgilla should be the first choice spinner for the first couple of tours and add Dan Cullen and Cullen Bailey in the sqaud to find their feet in the international arena. Similar to Ricky Ponting touring the West Indies in 1995.

Cameron White's bowling is barely up to State level let alone the International level. He rarely turns the ball and the flight and fizz is just not there. His batting on the other hand has improved out of sight.

For Australia's next Test series my First XI would be:
Justin Langer
Matthew Hayden
Ricky Ponting
Mike Hussey
Michael Clarke
Dizzy Gillespie
Adam Gilchrist
Brett Lee
Nathan Bracken
Stuart Clark
Stuart MacGill

Nathan Bracken had a chance last year against the West Indies with Gillespie dropped and he didn't really produce anything that was consistently good or brillant spells of bowling, all Bracken is good for is the one day game.

As I said we should look at younger blood to fill the void.
